Did not enjoy this book as much as did "Good Things". It was kind of clunk and meaningless. Th plot with Marla was boring and didn't go anywhere. Diedre seemed a little boring as well. The impromptu trip to Paris was long- over due and rather dull.

To sum up my thoughts on this book, I will just say that this was just an okay 3rd book in the Good Things series. For those that didn't read book #2, Table Manners, I wouldn't read frther than this since everything will be a spoiler to you. At the end of Table Manners Deidre McIntosh finds out that she is pregnant and becomes newly engaged to her boyfriend Kevin. The book ended with things seemingly settled with Kevin's sister Marla and his god daughter Claire.

Family Room picks up a few weeks later and we have Deidre and Kevin gathering his family to let them know that they are engaged. Also we have Claire being shuffled back and forth from her mother's to her boarding school with frequent visits to Kevin. As well as Marla being annoyed that Deidre is alive and breathing the same air as she Deidre is feeling overwhelmed by everything that is being thrown at her as well as trying to keep a secret from Kevin that she fears will end their relationship.

Family Room in my opinion is just an okay book. Having the book split into three third persons points of views, as well as lack of depth of with all of the characters, and a too tidy ending, did not make this a must read.

For example, we have the book split up between Deidre, Marla, and Claire's points of views. Marla's point of view was really unnecessary. She is even more of a cartoon villain in this book and the seques into her state of mind added nothing to the story. Claire by far was the most interesting of all of the points of view and I wish that the book had split between her and Deidre. That could have made it a stronger book.

Additionally, the character of Kevin is a complete non-entity in this book. Besides making Deidre's knees weak I didn't get the appeal of this character. He was barely in this book and any real tension that would have added to his character were brushed away. Marla as I said above was a joke and keeps doing deplorable things without being called out on them. There was a chance for her to actually pay for what she did but once again we don't get any key scenes between her and other characters.

The ending came and when I finished the book I was left wondering what was the point of adding to this series. There was no real cosequences or plots that added any drama to this story. A topic that would have been interesting is the fact that Deidre is 45 years old and pregnant with her first child. There could have been scenes included about her needing to take extra precautions, her being concerned about her advanced age, something. Instead she seemed to be having the easiest pregnancy ever since all she ever was in the book was tired or hungry.

I recommend to fans who wants to know what happened after Table Manners.

This book has been pegged into the category of 'chick lit'. Too bad - the 'chick' who is the central character is nothing like any woman I know - a shallow, jealous, label obsessed, name dropping, paranoid, selfish woman whose life is miraculously rescued through the love of a brand new group of women friends.

Mia King writes a book that is a super fast read. It does not require much thought and does require a suspension of belief in real life. Maybe that's the purpose of the book - to take the reader completely out of any sense of reality and transport her to a world where problems are quickly solved, character flaws are quickly mended and everyone gets to have a happy ending.

I read the book all the way to the end and I'm glad - there are a number of very good recipes at the end. They earned this book a 2 1/2 star rating from me.
